We are moving! Our new address is 400 University, Floor 300, Seattle, WA 98101 within the Industrious coworking space. We have had a mostly virtual office for some time and this move acknowledges that and the preference our staff has for a hybrid workstyle. Working to maintain our culture of collaboration has been a primary goal as we’ve navigated the pandemic’s turn to virtual connection since 2020. We all know building a healthy culture is not easy.
There is an infamous saying that culture eats strategy for breakfast. Culture, according to HBR’s Why Company Culture Matters is “an organization’s DNA…the shared values, goals, attitudes, and practices that characterize a workplace. It is reflected in how people behave, interact with each other, make decisions, and do their work. It impacts everything — including your happiness and career.” AHRQ talks about patient safety culture, “the beliefs, values, and norms shared by health care staff” and that is driven by behaviors that are rewarded, supported, expected, and accepted. We must create space for people, the most important part of any organization, to be people, first with families and full lives outside of work.
I think of our work as being mission-driven, a tagline that everyone seems to be dedicated to on LinkedIn. Our mission is to catalyze quality improvement and I think our values support this mission and the inherent value of our employees. HBR’s Does Your Company’s Culture Reinforce Its Strategy and Purpose? says that, “magic happens when purpose, strategy, and culture are tightly connected and aligned, reinforcing each other” (maybe a bit hyperbolic by saying “magic.”) Creating a space where we all can find some amount of meaning, and a sense of belonging, should the be goal of all organizations.
